To Everything There Is A (Tigers) Season

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

A time to watch DETROIT BASEBALL. As I type this it says 14 hours and 45 minutes until pitchers and catchers report to Spring training for the Tigers. The start of baseball is unlike the start of any other sports season. One of my best friends summed it up best a few years ago when on opening day he simply said "There is going to be a baseball game on my TV everyday for the next 7 months." I don't know about you, but that is exciting. Every team has a fresh start, everyone is undefeated. Everyone has the chance to go 162-0. Sure it doesn't last long for most teams but the excitement of starting a new season is by far the best.

The smell of the grass, the crack of the bat, the stadium vendors shouting, the statues of the great players of years gone by beyond the fence at Comerica, the hot dogs, the pepsi's, the cracker jacks, the excitement of a foul ball coming your way, the way your leather glove smells when you go out to play catch for the first time, the family games at the Patterson's "Field of Dreams", Sam actually spray painting foul lines.... all the old memories of your favorites growing up - for some it's Kaline, Lolich, and Cash...for others it's Trammell, Whitaker and Gibby...Fielder, Tettleton, & Fryman...and today it's the likes of Inge, Ordonez and Verlander. We have all heard the names and we've all watched the games and once again a new season is upon us. Opening day can't get here soon enough. Welcome back Detroit Baseball !
